Alisa Neymark by Brooke Jacobs Pet Photography
Dr. Alisa Neymark is a dentist and animal lover. At a time begrudgingly known as "kitten season" amongst fellow rescuers, she became TNR certified to help fill the need for individuals performing trap-neuter-release in urban New York City. However, not all projects go as planned, and neither did her first. In the course of successfully fixing a colony of cats in Canarsie, she found an extremely sick kitten named Bergen. Bergen provided Dr. Neymark a crash course in worst case scenario kitten care, and she was quickly forced to learn how to administer sub-cutaneous fluids for rehydration, vaccinate and treat ringworm, Giardia, fleas, worms, Coccidia, Feline Herpes, and upper respiratory infections in kittens! Now, she often hears the comment: "You should have been a veterinarian!"
After this daunting introduction, Dr. Neymark's devotion to improving the lives of street and shelter cats endures. Her goal is to provide the best chance at a new life for every cat she encounters. Whether that includes socialization of feral kittens, complex medical treatment or just finding a great forever home, she is up for the challenge. If everyone could help fill the need by taking a free 3-hour TNR course offered by Animal Alliance and spay and neuter all of the cats on their block, the cycle of suffering would be greatly reduced.
Dr. Neymark was born in Odessa, Ukraine and has been a New Yorker since the age of 5. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Anthropology from Amherst College. After pursing genetics research at Columbia University for two years, she enrolled in Dental School at Stony Brook University. She completed her General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and has been practicing in private practice on Long Island. She resides in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with her 3 perfect adopted cats: Koda, Lily and Finnegan.
